The Transportation Building (originally called the 'Highway Building') was built along John Ireland Boulevard. Design for the Transportation Building called orginally for a six-story office structure. Last-minute lobbying the legislative session authorized its expansion to eight stories, a height that made the building style far too prominent for many critics.
