Style: Italian Villa Style
Stuart was a member of Stuart and Cobb lumber business. Later owners and residents included Brig. General Herman Haupt who lived there during the 1880's and Robert Smith, (Smith Avenue namesake) mayor of St. Paul, who lived there in the 1880's and 1890's. The house is the oldest building standing on Summit Avenue.

Comment: (65.27.64.124) Oldest, but not the first -- the first house on Summit was built in 1850 or so, and was torn down to build the James J. Hill house.

Comment: it lookes like there are 3 faces framing the top window on this picture. the original owners must still be proud!

Comment: i think i delivered flowers there. it has a shotgun hall down the center that is the darkest wood iv ever seen. it has an old english feel.

Comment: nice home but to many vines.
