The first house on this lot was built in 1857 for attorney Henry Masterson and razed in 1884. The present house was constructed for Fredrick Driscoll, who was them treasurer and general manager of the St. Paul Pioneer Press Company. The house was sold to Frederick Weyerhaeuser, whose lumber company was the largest of its kind in the U.S. around the turn of the century.
