Jacob Dittenhofer was partner in the Golden Rule Department Store with next door neighbor and brother-in-law W. H. Elsigner. He was also director of the German American National Bank and the Sharood Shoe Corporation in St. Paul and was a member of the Minnesota Commercial Club and the B.P.O.E.
His son Samuel Dittenhofer, eventually became one the heads of the Golden Rule and lived at 807 Summit Avenue. The house cost $14,648 to construct and was designed by architect Cass Gilbert.

Comment: Okay, sorry but what does "as best as it can be" mean. This is a magnificent home. Obviously you are missing the point on how important it is that these beautiful homes are still around. These homes are architectually fascinating. I wish I could live in a neighborhood as beautiful as this. Give credit where credit is due.
